100 Things | Magazines

20. I have a slight obsession with magazines.

I like reading magazines. Of course I am kind of obsessed about books too but magazines are good while traveling, while water is boiling, when I need a few moments to just take a break - a magazine is a good choice for me. I have a stack next to the bed, a magazine rack in the living room and then one in my studio. Most of the magazines I have subscriptions to are free or very low cost. I know that so much print media isn't great for the environment but I try to repurpose or recycle them.

Right now some of my favorites are: Real Simple(which if you look closely at the picture you can see a ton of flags sticking out it), Better Homes and Garden, Food and Wine and Metropolitan Home. I have little flags sticking out of those ones the most.

Photos if from the basket of magazines I have in my studio.

Quick Wit

I am not a person that has quick wit. I wish I was but I just don't have it. The other day though we were in the car and I told Michael that although I am going to miss him next week when he goes out of town, that I was looking forward to getting a lot accomplished. It isn't that I don't get things accomplished when he is here. I just still am having problems balancing working for him - his business and being my happy homemaker-self which I was before he owned his business and worked outside home. And so when he is away I have a focus that I can't have when he is here.

He jokingly did crying sounds and whining that I wasn't going to miss him and that I wouldn't remember him at all when he walked back in the door after being away. I came back with - "I have pictures of you, so I know what you look like." I said it so seriously and Michael's mouth just hung open for a moment and then we both just started laughing. It could be one of those: "you had to be there moments" I guess but it was a surprising moment for me.

100 Things | Lip Balm

16. I have a thing for lip balm.

I am taking this almost directly from Kathie at Two Frog Home because I nodded in agreement with her number 15 of her 100 thing about her as I am the same way.

I have always had several tubes around for as long as I can remember. Several in my bag (don't carry a purse but occasionally a bag - might be another 100 thing post eventually), on my desk, on my night stand and on the kitchen counter or on a side table in the living room. I usually carry one along with me in the pocket of my robe, skirt, coat or whatnot too. I think my obsession with lip balm came from Bonne Bell's Dr. Pepper lip balm and other lip smacker flavors that I used probably in junior high and high school. Despite liking to have them every where, I misplace them. When I reach in my bag where I usually have several tubes, I can never find one. I practically have to empty the bag to find one. It isn't that my lips are dry often. It is when I don't have them around I tend to lick my lips even more - making them chapped.

* The photo is of the ones from my desk and bag.

Somersault

We have been busy lately as always. It feels like that is a constant state but sometimes are more busy then the normal busy. Hows that for clear as mud? I have my political post going but not finished. I have 2 other posts about just things on my mind lately in working progress but just no time to finish any of it.

But the highlight of this week....

Monday we left to go to a meeting in the afternoon and forgot the keys so locked ourselves out of the house and car. So we had to break into our house. Be prepared to giggle as you read the rest. I scooched (more like ungracefully heaved) myself through a window that we got open. As I hit the floor in a full somersault my leg got caught into the curtains but I made it in. Thankfully no injuries occurred during this amazing acrobatic exercise. Oh and all this was done in a skirt. So now I am sportin some wicked bruises because of it. Just sayin that we need to train the cats to unlock the door for us.

Michael kept saying he wished he had a camera...I was thankful there wasn't one around. I hope our neighbor didn't watch!

We are leaving to go out of town so I didn't get to do a blog hopping today because been busy packing. And hopefully tomorrow I can take time to do my weekly gratitude list. Otherwise...we will be back on Sunday.

I had the dumb

Today we were out on the Colorado National Monument with the couple whose wedding we are filming. They are a lot of fun so there were many laughs. I still had a little lagging migraine so when we got home I pretty much went to bed. After I got up, I was going to attempt making dinner but thinking wasn't coming so Michael ordered us pizza. Thank goodness because when I came to look up if there were any coupons online - I had to put our zip code in and couldn't even remember it. I had to pull a bill from the stack I had sitting on my desk to input the correct zip code. So I fear what would have happened if I had tried to cook.

Haven't posted in awhile....

I'm a bad blogger...

It's been incredibly busy around here - and with another tweak of the knee - that further complicated things. So - instead of complaining and what not, I'll share my most recent plight of UPS... the little brown truck people...

So I placed an order a long time ago - it was back-ordered. But then I got an email that it had shipped (yay!) It was coming from New Jersey and was shipped on the 22nd, 8 days ago. My shipment made its way to Lawnside, NJ followed by Horsham, PA -- all is good, right? It made its way to Commerce City (in Colorado) on the 24th and life was good. Traditionally things that make it to Commerce City take a day or so before being delivered.

Then - on the 25th I had another package delivered by UPS and the online status reported that my New Jersey parcel was in Grand Junction and was sent out for delivery - YAY! But ... when the guy in the little brown truck came by -- only one package. hmmm... I checked the status of the New Jersey parcel and .... no update except for out for delivery.... 26th nothing - 27th nothing -- weekend.. 28th - still showing the 25th "out for delivery" update.... hmmm....

Finally - yesterday - the 29th - I checked online and much to my dismay - my discs have been transported to Little Rock, Arkansas... WHAT?!?!? *sighs* I check back later, and it was sent to Lenexa, Kansas followed by Salina, Kansas. So today when I sign in - it's reporting that it's once again at Commerce City and we'll see if it gets delivered tomorrow.....

*sighs* I'm just glad I wasn't charged by the mile! Holy heck!!

Cleaning my Ears

I think it is odd the things we get stuck in our mind and associate stories, scents, situations with. The other day I was cleaning my ears with a q-tip and I realized that EVERY time I clean my ears I think of this story.

Years and years ago when I lived in Omaha, Nebraska I worked at as an administrative assistant/receptionist. One of the sale people was calling in sick because she needed to go to the doctors. I don't remember her name. I can see her in my head though clearly a very pretty woman. It was probably 15 to 16 years ago when I worked there.

Anyway, I think of her when cleaning my ears because that day she called in sick was because she had been cleaning her ear out with a q-tip in the bathroom. The bathroom door was closed and her little girl came blasting into the bathroom shoving the door into the woman's elbow forcing her hand to push the q-tip into her ear rupturing her ear drum.

OUCH!

So, not only do I think of her when cleaning my ears out - I get sympathy pains and my ears ache a little when cleaning them. I know I am silly that all these years later I still think of her and feel sympathy pain for her.

Driving....

Okay so I have never been fond of driving. Because my birthday is in October I could have been driving before my classmates when turning 16. And really I still was but I didn't get my drivers license *on* my birthday because I just don't like driving. It really has never changed. Before I get in the car I think about where I am going, how I will get there exactly, what lanes I need to be in and where I will try to park when I get there. Driving stresses me out and sends me into almost a OCD mode and so I don't like driving. Well not true...I don't actually mind long distance driving. I used to kind of enjoy the drive from Cleveland, Ohio to Topeka, Kansas - did that several times. But city driving makes me anxious. So when I moved to be with Michael if I need to go store or need something, he drives and we go together. And we both like it that way...spending time together, doing things together. So I don't drive very often but just at times I do just to keep up with it.

So Michael hurt his knee the day after he came home from his trip so he is pretty much immobile -- so I have *had* to drive. Since Michael's injury when I have had to drive it just basically one thing to do - go, do it and come home again. But today I drove several places and I was gone several hours and then came home.

It was just so odd and surreal....but okay. I survived driving again.

One another note...Michael has a hot car....men especially seem to notice his car and ALWAYS comment on that it is a "sweet" ride or "AWESOME car" - and you should see them look when it is a girl driving it. It was quite funny watching their reactions.

Memoirs of a Geisha...

Michael bought me the 2 disc widescreen special edition of the Memoirs of a Geisha. Thank you Michael! Today I watched the movie (again after seeing it many times through netflix a while back) and then right now I am watching the second disc of it. It is really interesting - basically a making of the Memoirs of a Geisha from Geisha Bootcamp, to set design, the dancing, the music and so on. Right now the segment is about the music. John William's did the music. He came to Rob Marshall the director and asked to do the music. John Willam's had never asked for a movie but he wanted this one. So Rob Marshall was basically shocked and honored and of course said yes yes. And then Willam's said to him "I am thinking Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman for solo's" and asked Rob what he thought and Rob had to be picked off the floor.

They are now at the dance part and they are talking about the winter dance scene. I love that scene.

Okay going back to work...I know kind of an odd entry but it just struck me in the moment.
