New Hair Style

I finally got my hair cut. I had almost 11 inches taken off so that I could donate my hair to locks of love. I went into this knowing - it is just hair and it will grow back if I don't like it so I decided to go for something very different for me. Well I did get something very different....I haven't had my hair this short since I was in high school. I am not really liking it at the moment. A little too short. I think I will like it a bit better when it just grows out a bit more. Michael likes it but knows it wasn't what I was going for when I went to get it cut. I brought the iPad in with a bunch of pictures and I did get layers and I know why she cut it the way she did but it wasn't exactly what I was wanting. My hair has some natural light curl when it short. But my hair is so thick that when it grows longer it weights it down and pulls the curl out - making it straight. So right it has some curl to it which I actually don't mind. I wanted layers and it to be a little more sassy but just not this short.

The hair stylist was asking me how I wanted my bangs. And I said to the side and longer. I usually did shorter straight across but since I am going to part on the side I wanted longer to the side. She said "well since you are so young you can pull that off." I kind of laughed. I said, "I am 43 - is that young?" She had to have been in her mid to late 30's so calling me young made it seem like she thought I was I was younger then her. It turns out she did. She was stunned. She kept repeating that there was no way she would have guessed I was 43. She thought I was really young. She never said how young but I am guessing younger then her. So that was a nice compliment. But I thought the whole bangs comment was weird that having bangs on the side was only for young women. When did that happen?

I don't have pictures of my hair yet - because I don't like it. Haven't even sent one to my Mom who has asked me several times.

Weekend Update

Yesterday was really good.

It started off with me dying my hair but it didn't turn out. I used manic panic before - no bleaching of my hair and it came out just how I wanted it too. Anyway think blogger/twitter profile or I have one here too. So that is what I wanted to do with the purple well I should have went with this other brand the girl at Sally's told me about (can't remember the name at the moment but if I saw the box I would know it.) Or with manic panic again but I didn't and it was like I put purple water on my hair instead of dye. I mean it felt and looked like hair dye. It was REALLY bright purple but when it came time to wash it out - it didn't even look like I dyed my hair. It is like it didn't soak in. So next time I am going to use another brand a friend recommended and I am sure it will work out.

The good part of the day now...We decided to take the afternoon off and go for a drive. We went over the Colorado National Monument. We stopped for pictures along the way and just had a nice afternoon. And I can tell I was climbing on rocks as my knee hurts last night. But I know it was good for it. It was just a beautiful day out. Very spring like even up on the monument. It was a little chillier but still okay with short sleeves.

After we got home, I ended up being busy in the kitchen cooking. I made croutons, browned some ground turkey with taco seasoning and froze to take out for a quick fix meal and then I made breakfast burritos. I took pictures throughout the process and will upload them and the recipe soon.

I was so exhausted by the nights end that I just read for a little bit before bed. I am on the last Sookie Stackhouse book.

Today I woke up coughing. I have been a week behind Michael in his cold and it looks like what he had last weekend I now showing some symptoms. I slept so much. And I still feel worn out.

Friday Gratitude

1. For a beautiful day.
2. For being able to get out and take a drive on this beautiful day. We drove over the Colorado National Monument.
3. For getting my hair cut short - 8 inches off. And for being able to donate the hair to Locks of Love.
4. For time tonight to make up some bulk breakfast burritos.
5. For the library - I am on my last Sookie Stackhouse book. I am so thankful I can just order books online and pick them up.

just a daily life update...

I am still coughing - not as much of course. It is less and less each day. But on top of it now...allergy season has started. My eyes have been driving me crazy and my nose is running. Thank goodness for loratadine or I would absolutely miserable.

It just seems like there isn't much going on with me. Just cleaning and working and the rest of the everyday things and then rinse and repeat.

My hair is at this awkward length where it isn't long enough to put behind my shoulders but it isn't short enough to not just sit on them. I also haven't dyed it in a while and seeing gray. So it is driving me crazy.

It has been beautiful here. Sunny and just perfect spring weather. We have had the windows open quite a bit. But of course since it is so nice we decided we better get a move on painting the shed and deck so this weekend or early next week we will be doing that. I need to make sure I track down our sun screen. I am slightly allergic to the sun and also I am on a med that I can't be in the sun for prolonged time.

I am watching Peter Pan! Why that just reminded me....but I wanted to remember that I saw magnetic antiqued alphabet letters at Michael's that I can think of a few uses.

Okay well I am going to watch the rest of Peter Pan and then go to bed.

Dinner and Purple Hair

Dinner smells really good but it isn't done yet! I threw some cubed pork into the crock this morning with ginger, garlic, onion, a little honey, soy sauce and chicken stock. And just added some corn starch now to thicken the sauce up. Making rice with veggies in it to serve with it. I would have put some chopped red bell peppers in it too but we are so out of groceries. We went to Sam's today and I am very thankful as we got some things to last for a bit more before we hit the grocery store. We have just been so busy haven't had time to do grocery shopping. Tomorrow Michael has a meeting then we need to drive to a nearby town to pick up some work he is doing. So the day will be pretty much shot with those 2 things. But it will be nice to have a little road trip.

Michael had a meeting today at Borders coffee shop so I went to Michael's Arts and Crafts and Sally's Beauty Supplies which are nearby. I want to dye my hair purple so I went to check out the dyes they have...I found one that really is the color I want. And then another brand that was more pinky then purple. I am going to google reviews on the brands to see what I find about them. But hopefully soon I will have purple hair. I got done with Michael's Arts and Crafts and Sally's before Michael's meeting was done so I grabbed Eat, Pray, Love and camped out in a chair for a while. I really enjoyed what I read.

Going to finish making dinner...the smell is is making me hungry!

where oh where is my hair....

You know when I walked in to get my haircut I knew I should have waited as my favorite girl wasn't there today. So instead getting the 4 to 5 inches I wanted off...the stylist took 7 to 8 inches off. It is just a smidge past my chin. After I dye it tomorrow I will take pictures. I showed her how much I wanted off and she started in the back so I didn't see how much she was actually taking off until it was too late. When she got to the front....I knew....it was quite a bit shorter then I told her. Sad thing is that if I would have known she was taking that much off I would have told her to take one more inch and save my hair so that it could have went to locks of love - I think that is what upsets the most. All that hair lying on the floor could have been donated had she asked to take that much off.

It was just hard looking at it this short though and she is lucky I didn't start crying right there. I know it is only hair. It will grow back but just not feeling very happy about it. I am sure it will "grow" on me. Michael likes it and says it is cute so that is good. I was worried it was too short for him too.

Locks of Love

Well I went to get my hair cut and I am terrible with measurements. I am always under so if I say I want 1 inch cut off I really wanted 3. I talked about probably getting 5 inches of hair off. I showed my hairstylist the length I wanted it to be and she said are you sure? Which I expected and I said yes. She said okay. So she brushes through all my hair and then get a ruler out and she tells me that is almost 8 1/2 inches. We discussed locks of love right away and said they needed 10 inches. And so I said, "do it...make it 10." So now I have hair barely past my shoulders... where this morning it had been almost hip level.

Michael has cancer survivors in his family and they were my first thought. So my hair went to a good cause.

Dyed My Hair....

I have been thinking about dying my hair black. A friend of mine told me before going from the red to the black to slowly bring my hair back to my natural color and then dye it black. So, I picked up some brown dye. When Michael and I held it up to my roots in the store it looked close, so we got it. It ended up 2 shades darker. And the problems that I have heard that happen when people dye their hair black happened with my hair.

It didn't take on all of the hair even though the dye was saturated in all areas.

Not as noticeable straight on view....

So in a couple weeks I will dye it again with a protein filler and hope that it takes!
